Back to blogging

Misc

Recently, despite the complete lack of content on dustyd.net, I have actually been doing quite a bit of blogging. The blog over at BrightMix is fairly active, and gives a great glimpse into life and the fun times that we have going on from day to day at the office. I highly recommend it. Additionally, I create a great deal of content for Silicon Prairie News, though it consists of less commentary, and more in the way of interviews, etc.

Thus I need an outlet for a lot of the ideas and passions that I have circulating in my head. Neither of the two aforementioned blogs really can serve as a place for what I would consider “racier” content. Not that it’s *bad* or anything, just commentary.

And so, here we are… As it stands now, I see a few major themes in play for the new (and hopefully improved) dustyd.net….

  • Entrepreneurship / Innovation – It’s no secret that we at BrightMix have become intricately involved with the creation of a vibrant and exciting startup culture in and around Omaha. We’ve always considered ourselves to be uniquely “startup-ish” in the region, and in the absence of a thriving startup community (like Boulder, Austin, or the Valley), we set out to create one. Through endeavors like Silicon Prairie News and the BIG Omaha Conference, we’re helping to cultivate the next generation of people that will start successful businesses and put Omaha on the map as a true center for innovation and entrepreneurship. Not to mention just making it a cool place to be.
  • Online Newspapers – Its also no secret that I’m quite passionate and opinionated about online newspapers (and online local news in general). I also like to think I happen to be quite educated on the matter as well. Until now, I’ve resorted to opining verbally to my wife and colleagues, but I feel that its finally time to get some of this out and share with the world. Newspapers are dead… viva la internet.

Those are the two biggies I can think of right now. I’m excited about where we can take this.. We’ve got a lot of projects up our sleeves, including a coworking space, an expanded media empire, and other fun and interesting things. All of these are fair game on this site, in a way that they might not be welcome on my other web properties.

Its good to be blogging again…

About this blog

Dusty Davidson

My name is Dusty Davidson, and I own a small-yet-mighty web development company in Omaha, Nebraska called BrightMix. We do lots of things, including writing great web apps, running a few sites, and organizing some great events.

I believe strongly that Omaha can be a vibrant center for startups and entrepreneurship, and I'm setting out to make that happen. I also tend to hate newspapers. These are likely themes you'll find here.
