FLORANCE, ITALY - sooooo hot, and sooooo much stuff..

Thursday, June 12, 2003 11:16 AM
today its another balmy 95 degree day in italy. actually, this morning when we were doing most of our walking, it wasn't TOO bad. sleeping in the heat kinda sucks though, but we're staying in the greatest little place, practically someone's house, right in the heart of florence. the old lady and man that live there/run the place speak very little english, but are adorable. they're one of rick steves' top picks, and have a wall lined with xmas cards that rick and his family send to them every year, so funny.

had reservations at the ufizzi this morning early, tons of italian renessance paintings and sculptures. quite amazing. i'd list off some of my favorites, the biggies, but i have post cards i'm going to send to hannah to quiz her on them. haha.

then visited the duomo here, the FOURTH largest cathedral in the world (the one in milan was the 3rd). neo-gothic, i like the milan one sooo much better, but the place was HUGE.

and finally off to the acadamia, which houses the real statue of david. sooo good, its simply amazing. much like venus de milo, its at the end of a long hallway, in a domed room all to itself... and its BIG. 17 feet tall think. simply stunning. they also then leading up to it have a collection of unfinished michelangelo statues, entitled the 'slaves' which were amazing even though incomplete.

good day really, just accept the fact that you're never going to cool off, and move on i guess.

tomorrow, *hopefully* we'll stop in pisa on our way to naples, where julie's brother and his family live. they've got a pool! so i guess i'll be able to cool off THEN. ha. ciao.
