i have to admit, upon first arriving here in plakias, i didn't understand the draw. i mean, when i checked in, chris the guy running the place talked extensively about how long people had been here, and about how much fun people were having, but after a day or two, i just wasn't feeling it. funny thing about that though, cause after a few days, i began to settle in and i've seemed to have caught the bug. its a slow life here, things operate on island time, and after a couple of days of that, i really began to realize the beauty in being here. the atmosphere propogates laziness, and well, i rather enjoy that. allow me to describe to you my typical day, as it exists now. my routine if you will. wake up, usually about the last one up in my room, but only because there's not so many people in my room right at the moment. after sitting around and bs-ing with people about the previous night, i take a walk into town, a whole 3 minute walk. (tough, let me tell you). stop at a nice little shop, run by a lovely english couple, to buy a coke, chat with them for a while, and then head off to the pastry shop to buy a tiropita, a nice cheese-filled greek pastry. mmm. and then, back to the hostel for a rough day of lounging. perhaps off to the beach later on, although i'm quite rosy red now, as after not having worn a shirt in days, i've had my fill of sun. so as i said, a difficult day of doing nothing usually. hammocks and all of that. relaxing in the early afternoon on the patio with people, and then usually off to nikos suvlaki for dinner. mostly run by people from the hostel, they cook up some mean greek food, best of all, in my opinion, the spinocopita. mmmm. aaand, then, after a fine, cheap, greek dinner, its off to joe's bar. joe, the greek owner, knows everyone, and its always fun sitting and bull-shitting with him about nothing and everything. and after that, another bar. and then repeat, on a daily basis. its tough, let me tell ya. doing nothing here is just what i needed, and i'm loving it. one of these days i may leave, but when i know not. as much as i want to visit other islands, i really can't be asked to leave. i will eventually (i've booked my flight to the uk, so i HAVE to at some point), but i take it a day at a time. who knows. for now, its off for a fun filled evening...
