We've reached the halfway point in our trip! AAAH! It's sooo hard to believe that we've been gone a whole week. Actually, it sort of seems that we've been here for quite a while, but the time goes fast, and I know that soon it will be time to go home. But, not before we get to do a whole bunch more things!
Let me start by saying that I've never had so many freaking doner kebabs in my ENTIRE LIFE. I know I may have talked about them at great length after returning the last time, but never was I somewhere that literally had one kebab shop every 50 yards. Berlin was like that, and as far as we can tell, so is Hamburg. It's like gelato places in Rome... only it's kebabs. It's crazy. I'm pretty sure we've had at least one per day since arriving in Germany!
The football (soccer) scene here in Germany is equally crazy. It's true that EVERY shop, bar, cafe, you name it -- they all have the games on. We don't watch all the games, but It's been fun for us to stop by some random cafe in the afternoon for a beer or two, and catch the last parts of the games.
The Fan Fests are quite fun places to watch the games as well.. that's where we watched the US v. Italy game the other night, which was pretty exciting. I made the joke that it was the first time ever in Europe that I was actually seeking out Americans to hang out with :-) It was fun seeing all the support for the team, all gathered into one place. I'd say there were 50,000ish people down there, all watching the game on these giant screens. Probably more Itialians there than Americans, but still.. FUN.
Tonight we're off to the stadium to see our first game LIVE! It's Saudi Arabia - Ukraine, and it's on at 18:00 here, which should be 11:00 or Noon back home. Check it out if you get a chance, we'll be the ones in neutral colors somewhere in the sea of Green (Saudis) or Yellow /Blue (Ukraine).
That's all the time I have for now.. Marlina posted a blog entry about our trip over on her site, check it out if you get a chance... http://lessthanaminute.blogspot.com
