FireBug v1 Beta

Monday, December 04, 2006 11:26 PM

FirebugI posted some time ago about a fantastic utility for web developers -- Firebug. Since that post I've come to rely heavily on it... truly an amazing and useful piece of software.

Well, it seems the developer has been hard at work and has released version 1 beta. Ajaxian has a nice writeup, or you can get the scoop from the official site. In addition, it was reveiled today that "Firebug will remain free and open source"! Fantastic!

Got me thinking though about what Jeff Atwood was talking about the other day...

Let's band together and support those small software vendors writing Windows apps that not only don't suck, they ROCK. Let's support the little guy who still gives a damn about creating small, beautiful, useful apps on an operating system that gets no respect.

That is why I declare today, Friday, December 1st, 2006, Support Your Favorite Small Software Vendor Day.

I try to make a habbit of donating to open source projects that I use and admire, though based on the amount of free software I use, I could definately do more. Thus, I'm with Jeff in supporting free software on a monthly basis. It may not be a ton, but it's something, and hopefully it will keep people creating the software that I love.

Firebug is getting my donation for the month of December.
