I'm quite excited today as the final version of Microsoft Expression Web Designer has been released!
For those not familiar with this, it's Microsoft's replacement for FrontPage. They also however are going directly after the professional web designer market (ie, people who typically use DreamWeaver), by making it completely standards compliant. From what I've seen, it's ability to craft CSS-based, valid sites is just awesome.
For me, it will also integrate seemlessly with ASP.NET 2.0. This is something that Dreamweaver definately does NOT do. Though they advertise ASP.NET support, it's very limited. Expression Web however, will render server controls, and master pages just the same as the Visual Studio designer. Sweet. In fact, Expression's designer is based on the Orcas rendering engine (the next version of Visual Studio), so it's actually better that VS. It correctly handles nested master pages, for example.
Can't wait to try it out... downloading the trial version as I type...
One point of contention however, has been Microsoft's decision to NOT include the product with MSDN. Surprising move really... There's a lot of negative discussion floating around the web about this. It'll be interesting to see how Microsoft responds. I for one would love for it to be included...
