Today in Campfire, Zink and I got onto the topic of Lotus Notes, which we both concluded to be utter trash. A fairly funny dialog ensued... (edited slightly for length)
| KZ | [previous company] had the whole rational package |
| KZ | most of their stuff was IBM |
| Dusty D. | bleh |
| KZ | it's so overpriced |
| Dusty D. | we use lotus notes here for email, and it's enough to make me want to punch IBM in the nuts |
| KZ | lotus notes is a huge flaming pile of garbage |
| KZ | oh shitty |
| KZ | I didn't realize you used notes |
| Dusty D. | jesus christ yes... like enough to where for my next job, i'm asking if they use it.. .and if they do, i'm walking out of the interview |
| Dec 11 | 3:25 PM |
| Dusty D. | notes represents all that is soulless and wrong |
| Dec 11 | 3:30 PM |
| KZ | I know |
| Dec 11 | 3:30 PM |
| KZ | funny what you said about not working someplace that uses notes |
| KZ | when I came here to [current company], I asked if they used notes |
| Dusty D. | i'm serious as a heart attack |
| KZ | because I thought the same thing |
| Dusty D. | companies that use notes clearly have no regard for overall employee productivity, and they clearly got suckered by some two-bit IBM sales guy in a $3000 suit |
| Dusty D. | outlook is so far ahead of notes in terms of features and ease of use it's not even funny |
| KZ | I know |
| KZ | [previous company] got sold the fucking farm by IBM |
| Dusty D. | lol |
| KZ | lotus notes, rational products (which fucking SUCK!), and gigantic IBM mainframes to do their work on |
| Dec 11 | 3:35 PM |
| Dusty D. | bleh |
And, for what it's worth, here's a site outlining specifically why Lotus Notes sucks. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's plenty good about it. I hear it has the best (most flexible???) "database" around - whatever that means. But, from this user's perspective, it's utterly useless.
That's all.
